What Happens At Woofers?

If you don’t have a trusted friend or relative who can take care of your dog when you go away then maybe you don’t go on vacation, or your beloved pet has to go to a kennel.

The truth is that some dogs get extremely stressed by a  kennel situation. We speak from experience as our own dog, Max  is one of these.

So, if you go on  vacation  and need to place your dog in boarding kennels, you might spend time and energy stressing about how your dog is coping while you are gone and how your pet is going to be when you get home.  Not much fun for you, or your best friend.

What’s the alternative?  Woofers!

The key words at Woofers are “Home  Away From Home”.  We don’t want you, or your pet to feel stressed  while you are on vacation. Your furry friend will be living in our home being  treated as our own dog for the time he or she  is staying here. We don't use crates or kennels unless an owner specifically asks us to, for example, at night and even then, the  kennel will be in our sitting room, kitchen or bedroom.

Your best friend will receive lots of love and attention, regular walks, doggy company  and have a flat securely fenced  yard in which to have  fun!

Unlike boarding kennels, where your dog may be shut up for the night at 6pm and not see anyone until the next morning, we are on hand 24 hours. Your dog  won't  to go to bed until we do and can sleep more or less where he or she likes. If your dog is anxious or  unwell during the night,  we are on hand to alleviate those fears or make sure that your dog gets what it needs. We expect the occasional sleepless night!

There are never  more than four dogs at the house at one time (including our own dog) ensuring that  each dog gets personal attention.

All of this means that you can go away on vacation and enjoy yourself, knowing that your dog is being loved and cared for in comfortable and knowledgeable surroundings.

We can also collect and return your dog within the greater Victoria area for a small charge

Woofers is a smoke and child free environment.

Are there any dogs we don't board?

Yes, there are.

For obvious reasons, we are  only able to board  dogs that are well behaved, non-destructive, housetrained, sociable, non-aggressive and have absolutely  no issues with  other dogs and people.

We regret that we can't board un-neutered males or  unspayed females.

If your dog has separation anxiety or is a rescue dog, please be sure to tell us when you contact us, especially if you have only recently acquired your dog.  Recently acquired rescue dogs and dogs with separation anxiety may find it too stressful to be away from their owner and their home environment and therefore a pet sitter staying in your home may be more suitable.

Where are we?

Woofers is based in our home in Brentwood Bay, Central Saanich, Vancouver Island where we live with  our Leonberger  Max.  We have a spacious home  and  a flat, securely fenced yard.  Brentwood Bay is only 15 minutes' drive from the airport and ferries, making it ideal for clients wanting to leave their dogs with us before flying out or when sailing  to the mainland.

There are plenty of places to walk your dog  such as Island View beach (ten minutes drive), as well as various parks and trails locally.  We  also  walk dogs at Beaver Lake  and Thetis Lake.

If you have access to email while you are away, your dog will email  you, with either a link to a video or photographs so that you hear about and see how much fun your pet has been having!

Our own dog Max is a Leonberger.

A Leonberger is  a giant breed and Max  weighs in at around 130 pounds.  Our boy  is neutered, very friendly and loves having other dogs come to stay.  Though he is getting on in years,  he is still  playful and can be exuberant! Therefore, if your furry friend  is nervous of large dogs, then Woofers may not be suitable.

If you  wish to know more,  please contact us, and we will be happy to  email  or post you  an  information sheet detailing all that you will need to know about your dog staying at Woofers.

Before we agree  to board your dog, we will invite you  to come for an  initial no-obligation visit  with your dog  in order to  help you  decide if you think Woofers will be suitable for your pet and for us to assess whether we feel your dog will be comfortable here.

If we accept your dog for boarding,  we will ask you to complete a detailed  information  sheet that asks  all  about your dog, its habits and character.  This information will help us to understand your dog and help us make your best friend feel at home.
